The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of changes to our lives. In addition to prioritizing our health and safety, many schools and businesses have transitioned to a more remote style of learning and working. While this transition was a little difficult back in April, many people have come to see it as the new normal.

That’s not to say that remote learning and working doesn’t have hurdles. Arguably, one of the biggest problems is creating a space that allows you to disconnect from your personal life and transition into either school or work mode. Luckily, there are a few easy ways you can transform your home space into the perfect classroom or office.

1. Dedicate a School or Work Zone

Wherever you need to sign on for school or work, just make sure that it’s in a separate area of your home with as few distractions as possible. The zones help your mind get into the right mindset for learning or working, so it’s important to commit and make these physical separations.

2. Keep Supplies Close

Make sure that your dedicated zone has everything you need within range. Having to get up and get supplies for a work or school project causes us to break our concentration and disrupt activity.

3. Make Sure Your Internet is Strong

One of the most important parts of working from home or participating in e-learning is having a strong Internet connection. Make sure that your workspace or home classroom gets good Internet connection to ensure that all of your video conferences are strong, and you don’t miss out on anything due to lagging or buffering.

4. Keep Your Personal Life Separate

Make it a habit to mentally transition into work or school mode when it’s time. During these hours, don’t try to fill small breaks with doing things around the house. It’s easy to blend work/school into your personal time and without these boundaries, it can create a lifestyle that’s more difficult to manage. To keep your days as stress free as possible, only log in when it’s time to start. When your day is over make sure to logout at an appropriate time to avoid burnout.

5. Upgrade to Professional Design

Regardless of if we like it or not, it seems like remote learning and remote working is here to stay for the foreseeable future. To make sure that you’re keeping your work/life balance strong and encouraging an environment of learning, consider upgrading to a professionally designed workspace that meets all of your classroom and office needs.
